What does overload protection of DC Molded Case Circuit Breaker mean?

The DC Molded Case Circuit Breaker provides overload protection with temperature-sensitive elements. The assembly is essentially a bimetallic contact: a contact composed of two metals that expand at different rates when exposed to high temperatures. Under normal operating conditions, the bimetallic contacts will allow current to flow through the DC Molded Case Circuit Breaker. When the current exceeds the trip value, the bimetallic contacts will begin to heat up and bend due to the different heat rates of thermal expansion within the contacts. Eventually, the contacts will bend to the point that they physically push the trip lever and unlock the contacts, causing the circuit to break.

The thermal protection of the DC Molded Case Circuit Breaker usually has a time delay to allow for short-term overcurrents that are common in certain equipment operations, such as inrush currents that occur when starting a motor. This time delay allows the circuit to continue operating under these conditions without tripping the DC Molded Case Circuit Breaker.

Why is DC Molded Case Circuit Breaker an electrical fault protection against short circuit current?

DC Molded Case Circuit Breaker provides instantaneous response to short circuit faults based on electromagnetic principles. The DC Molded Case Circuit Breaker contains an electromagnetic coil that generates a small electromagnetic field when current is passed through the DC Molded Case Circuit Breaker. During normal operation, the electromagnetic field generated by the solenoid coil is negligible. However, when a short circuit fault occurs in the circuit, a large current begins to flow through the solenoid, so a strong electromagnetic field is built up that attracts the trip lever and opens the contacts.

What is the difference between DC Molded Case Circuit Breaker and Residual Current Circuit Breaker?

DC Molded Case Circuit Breaker is an electrical circuit breaker for short-circuit current. It is mainly used in AC and DC circuits for power distribution or protection of motor overload, short circuit, undervoltage and overvoltage. For infrequent making and breaking of lines under normal operating conditions. Special requirements can be achieved with shunt and alarm contacts. The short-circuit breaking capacity is up to 100KA.

The leakage circuit breaker is mainly used in AC circuits. When the unbalanced current of two or three-phase power lines exceeds the specified value, it will trip to prevent electric shock accidents. The maximum cutting capacity does not exceed 5KA. If you want to improve the cut-off capacity, you can cut off the short-circuit current through the current transformer, the current relay and the shunt release.
